Special Tribute

Verna S. King, Nu Chapter, was honored in a special tribute “Celebrating a Life of Service” on March 24, 2005. Verna has been a San Diego educator, political activist and civic leader since 1942. Verna feels that her greatest contribution has been through her work with young people. She taught and counseled at Memorial Junior High School, in the Logan Heights area of San Diego, for 30 years helping better the lives of hundreds of black kids and their families in racially unenlightened times.

She was gorgeous, well-dressed and no nonsense. She was just the kind of role model black students needed right then. She was initiated into the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International in May, 1971.

April 4, 2005 was declared “Verna King Day” in The City of San Diego.
